Tornadoes Rip Through Texas, Damage Reported

Significant damage is being reported in Texas following at least 20 tornadoes.

One person is dead and at least seven people are injured after storms laced with tornadoes swept along the Red River Monday evening on the Texas-Oklahoma state line. Texas authorities confirm that one person was killed in Grayson County, where damage is reported near the towns of Gordonville and Sherwood Shores. 

In Central Texas, vehicles were flipped over in Round Rock. Some businesses and houses were damaged throughout Williamson County. Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell says there were a number of structures damaged and some destroyed. In an evening news conference with Governor Greg Abbott, Gravell said it was a miracle that there have not been any reports of serious injuries. He's declaring a disaster emergency in the county.

Governor Abbott said other areas in the state were also hit hard. A manufacturing facility and storage building was also destroyed when a separate twister hit along Highway 290 in Elgin. Metal is also strewn across the ground and insulation was thrown into trees.

Damage was also reported in far North Texas around Jacksboro where the high school gym had part of its roof ripped off and debris put on the court. There was also damage reported in Cooke County. There are no reports of injuries.

In Southeast Texas, a possible tornado touchdown in Beasley. A family living in a trailer home were rescued after it flipped over. A mother and child had to be rescued.
