Bastrop Shelter For Sex Trafficking Victims Investigated For Abuse

A shelter in Bastrop intended to help underage sex trafficking victims is being investigated following allegations of abuse at the facility. The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services says residents at The Refuge Ranch reported sexual and physical abuse, along with neglectful supervision and medical neglect. KXAN reports an employee at The Refuge produced illicit material with residents, and several staff members were allegedly involved in trafficking the minors. DFPS removed all of the residents staying at the ranch earlier this week. Governor Greg Abbott called the allegations "abhorrent," and he has directed the Texas Rangers to launch an investigation.
