The U.S. Energy Secretary is asking oil companies to increase their output. Speaking in Texas, Jennifer Granholm said an increase in short-term supply is needed to stabilize the market and help American families. She added that a third release from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is possible, but said the private sector needs to help as well. Granholm argued a production increase can happen responsibly while not detracting from the White House's renewable energy goals.
