Democratic candidate for governor Beto O'Rourke is facing a lawsuit from the CEO of Energy Transfer. The El Paso native says he is being sued for defamation by Kelcy Warren, who is also one of Governor Greg Abbott's top donors. Warren claims O'Rourke is falsely accusing him of "serious crimes" stemming from his relationship with the governor. On the campaign trial, O'Rourke has said Warren's million-dollar donation to Abbott is "pretty close to a bribe" meant to keep the governor from making major changes to the energy sector after the winter storm. According to the Wall Street Journal, Energy Transfer made more than two-billion-dollars due to a sharp increase in natural gas prices caused by the freezing weather. O'Rourke called the lawsuit "frivolous," and said he will "not back down."
