Texas is publishing the new rules for big cities involving police budgets. The Governor's Public Safety Office will look at budgets on a yearly basis to make sure municipalities aren't negatively affecting public safety, police to population ratios, and increasing response times. Cities would have their tax rates limited and lose access to other taxes. The requirements are for cities with more than 250,000 residents. Governor Greg Abbott says the rules will keep cities from defunding police and make sure Texans are safe.
