The city of Austin, Texas, is going to pay $10 million to settle a pair of police brutality lawsuits. The City Council approved the payouts to Justin Howell and Anthony Evans. The pair suffered head injuries when struck by bean bag rounds fired by police during the 2020 George Floyd protests. Then Police Chief Brian Manley said Howell never should have been shot because an officer was aiming at a different protester. Evans' lawsuit said he was leaving a protest and not a threat when he was shot.
