Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is expected to appeal a federal judge's ruling against part of a new Texas election integrity law. Senate Bill 1 bans election officials from sending mail-in ballot applications to registered voters who haven't asked for them. U.S. District Judge Xavier Rodriguez of San Antonio claims the provision amounts to unlawful viewpoint discrimination in violation of the First Amendment. A couple of election officials sued in December, claiming the law infringes on free speech and hampers their ability to help voters cast a ballot.
