Austin Independent School District officials are considering cutting 250 positions to balance next year's budget. The district reported that it wants to reinvest that money in wage increases for other employees. This would include prioritizing base pay for teachers hourly pay and allowing more planning time for teachers. Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde said that for now the situation is "fluid."
