The State Department has begun evacuating staff members from the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine. A State Department advisory says "U. S. citizens should not travel to Ukraine, and those in Ukraine should depart immediately using commercial or other privately available transportation options."

The Washington Post says about 130,000 heavily armed Russian troops have been deployed around Ukraine, and that Moscow is carrying out naval exercises near the southern coastline. Russia is also reportedly pulling its diplomatic staff from Kyiv, citing "possible provocations" by Ukraine and other countries.
