General manager Nick Caserio is making it clear that Texans hired Lovie Smith on his merit. During Smith's introductory news conference on Tuesday, Caserio cleared up the decision-making process. He said that Brian Flores, who was also a finalist, was not treated differently after he filed a lawsuit against the NFL and several teams over alleged racist hiring practices in the league. Smith ultimately beat out Flores to become Houston's new head coach. Flores remains without a job after all the open head coaching positions reportedly got filled in the NFL.
