The latest winter storm has come and gone, and the state's power grid performed well. For most of the time the storm lasted, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas operated with a power capacity cushion of 17,000 megawatts, enough to keep the lights on in three-million homes. Gov. Greg Abbott praised the grid's performance and pointed to the changes the state has made since last February's storm led to deadly power outages.
