A federal appeals court will hear a challenge today to the Texas abortion law. Judges will consider whether state medical licensing officials can discipline doctors and nurses for performing abortions in Texas after about six weeks of pregnancy. A Supreme Court ruling in December left the restrictive abortion law largely intact, but left the door open for a challenge. The Texas law allows private citizens to sue anyone who "aids or abets" in an abortion after about six weeks of pregnancy, leaving abortion clinics with no government entity to challenge in court.
