The state is sending more than 400 nurses and respiratory therapists to help the San Antonio area with the omicron surge. Eric Epley, executive director of the Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council, says the 411 personnel will arrive this week. He says the area actually needs more like 11-hundred extra nurses, but they're grateful for however many they get. Epley says this the fourth time since the pandemic started in 2020 that the Department of State Health Services has sent out-of-state contract nurses to the area.
