The Republican primary for Texas House District 17 now has a fourth candidate in the running. Smithville City Council Member Stan Gerdes has filed his candidacy in the district, which includes Bastrop County. Gerdes is a former senior advisor for the Department of Energy under President Trump. He was elected to the Smithville City Council in May. Gerdes says he supports the Second Amendment, is pro-life, and opposes critical race theory.
