Construction is expected to begin in the middle of next year on part of a major upgrade to I-35 on the Northeast side. The Texas Department of Transportation updated the Transportation Policy Board of the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization about the project during the board's Monday meeting. The first part of the project will add three elevated express lanes, one of them an HOV, both ways between Loop 410 and FM 3009. TxDOT says the added lanes will reduce commute times by up to 40%.
