The first case of the COVID omicron variant was confirmed in Texas yesterday. Harris County officials announced that a woman with no recent travel history tested positive for the variant. State Health Services Commissioner Doctor John Hellerstedt said he is "not surprised" that omicron is in Texas, and urged residents to get vaccinated and take precautions against the virus. The omicron variant was first detected in the US last Wednesday.
