The Justice Department is suing Texas over its new election law. Attorney General Merrick Garland says SB 1 violates the Voting Rights Act and Civil Rights Act by making it harder for people to vote. The suit specifically mentions new restrictions on poll booth assistance to the disabled along with some mail ballot rules. The Texas Legislature passed S.B. 1 in late August during the second special session. It bans drive-through voting and prevents counties from sending out unsolicited mail-in ballot applications. Multiple suits have been filed over the law.
