The Supreme Court will consider the new abortion law in Texas on Monday. Justices fast-tracked oral arguments in the case but a ruling may not come for months. Texas abortion providers and the Justice Department have challenged the new law in two separate cases. Challengers argue the new law aims to gut abortions in Texas and would violate longstanding constitutional protections for abortion. Texas officials claim the plaintiffs are not entitled to sue the state. The law bans most abortions in the state after six weeks of pregnancy. It makes no exceptions for pregnancies resulting from rape or incest. Meantime, the Supreme Court will consider a controversial abortion law in Mississippi in December.
