School districts statewide have a lot of catching up to do to regain some of the learning losses students suffered because of the pandemic. Texas Education Agency Commissioner Mike Morath spoke about the situation to educators and business leaders at the Dallas Regional Chamber on Tuesday. Morath compared current learning setbacks to what districts saw in refugee students after Hurricane Katrina, pointing out that students never recovered in certain subjects. Morath says Texas lost at least ten years' worth of progress.
