The U.S. Supreme Court is blocking the execution of a Texas inmate convicted of stabbing and killing a Corpus Christi convenience store worker. The New York Times reports that the high court issued a stay of execution for John Henry Ramirez yesterday. Ramirez was seeking to halt his execution because Texas prison officials would not let his spiritual adviser touch him and pray inside the death chamber. Without the stay, Ramirez would have been executed last night. The execution will be on hold until the court reviews the case sometime in the next two months.
