Actress Bette Midler is calling on all women to refuse to have sex because of Texas' new abortion law. She also suggested that Congress should guarantee abortion rights for all women. Midler tweeted, "I suggest that all women refuse to have sex with men until they are guaranteed the right to choose by Congress. " Texas' highly restrictive abortion law took effect this week. The legislation bans almost every abortion after a fetal heartbeat is detected, which is usually at six weeks of pregnancy. The measure also allows anyone who aids or performs abortions can be sued by private citizens. In another tweet, Midler harshly criticized the GOP for piling on "yet another shock to women" by taking away their right to choose.
