The surviving congregation of First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs plans to tear down the old church building, which had been preserved as a memorial. More than two-dozen people were shot and killed, and about 20 others wounded, on a Sunday in November 2017. The church now meets in a larger new building near the old one, which has served as a memorial since shortly after the shooting. Church members voted Sunday to tear down the building, reportedly because of structural safety problems. No date has been given for the demolition. Some sort of memorial will reportedly still be at the site.
