64% of eligible Bexar County residents are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, but Mayor Ron Nirenberg says that number does not reflect how many people are protected. The mayor said once you add in residents who are immunocompromised or under the age of twelve, the vaccination rate for the total population drops to about 50%. Nirenberg added that the surge in cases continues to impact children in the area, with 24 pediatric patients hospitalized for COVID yesterday. He once again urged residents to get the shot if they haven't already, noting that 89-percent of COVID patients in Bexar County hospitals are unvaccinated.
