A Texas Democrat state senator is planning to filibuster the election security bill. Houston Senator Carol Alvarado announced the filibuster this afternoon saying SB 1 is voter suppression and needs to be stopped. She then tweeted a photo of her tennis shoes, a reference to the 2013 abortion bill filibuster by then-state Senator Wendy Davis. Democrats have long criticized the election security bill saying it's being done to keep minorities and the disabled from casting a ballot. Republicans say the bill is needed to make sure voter fraud is reduced. The Texas Legislature is in its second special session over the issue and other bills. House Democrats went to Washington, DC to prevent a quorum in the first special session.
