The head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is expected to visit South Texas this week. The agency says Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas will be in the region Thursday to receive operational updates from frontline workers and meet with local officials. Several mayors in the region say they have been notified of the visit but can't say if they will be invited to participate. New U.S. Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz is also expected to visit the Rio Grande Valley this week before officially taking charge of the agency on Friday.
