Texas Supreme Court Asked To Rule On Abbott's Defunding Of Legislature

The Texas Supreme Court is being asked to rule on the constitutionality of Gov. Greg Abbott's defunding of the state legislature. Abbott issued a line-item veto of Article Ten in the state budget, which pays for the Legislature and its staff, after the end of the regular session. The veto was in response to House Democrats walking off the floor to prevent a vote on the election integrity bill. House Democrats now want the state's all-Republican high court to overturn the veto. Analysts call the case a separation-of-powers issue.
