The White House says a fully vaccinated staffer has tested positive for COVID-19 after meeting with Texas Democrats last week. Officials say the individual was not in close contact among White House principals and staff. The individual has mild symptoms and will remain off campus. A White House official emphasized that breakthrough infections are to be expected and the fact the person is having mild symptoms is an indication the vaccines are working.

A congressional aide in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office has also tested positive. Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill said that the individual has had no contact with the California Democrat since exposure.
