Austin is moving back to stricter coronavirus protocols as cases increase around the state. City health officials are urging residents that are unvaccinated to avoid nonessential travel as COVID cases increase rapidly. Austin's Stage 3 guidelines mean unvaccinated people should avoid gatherings, travel, shopping and eating out unless activities are essential.  The city's new guidelines cannot be enforced by law however because of Governor Greg Abbott's ban on pandemic mandates in May.
