Texas Takes Up Debate Over Critical Race Theory In School

With House Democrats absent from Austin, Texas Republicans are taking up a bill to ban the teaching of Critical Race Theory in schools. The bill's author is state Senator Bryan Hughes, who says CRT teaches kids to judge people by their skin color, not their character. The bill establishes a civics training program for teachers, which they are told to use for guided classroom discussions of current events. It also prohibits schools from awarding class credit for student work with organizations engaged in lobbying.
