Bexar County Commissioners are providing the funding for overtime at the county jail for the last four months of the fiscal year. The commissioners' court on Tuesday approved a request from the sheriff's office for nearly four-million-dollars. The funds will pay for more than 96-thousand overtime hours at the jail from June through September. Sheriff Javier Salazar says the overtime is needed to maintain proper staffing for the period. He says pandemic protocols, a large inmate population, and frequent turnover among jailers is making it tough to maintain proper staffing levels.
