Texas Democrats Flee To D.C. To Avoid Election Bill Vote

Texas Democrats woke up in Washington, DC, where they plan to stay for the next three weeks to block an election bill. More than 50 of them walked out of a special session yesterday in Austin, just a week after it started. And now they'll wait in the nation's capital until it ends on August 6th. They left so the state House wouldn't have enough members to continue when it reconvenes this morning.

The Democrats want to stop Republicans from passing new voting restrictions. Governor Abbott says the state may arrest the legislators when they return to the state and that there's nothing stopping him from calling more special sessions.
