Trial Begins Against Man Accused Of Killing SAPD Detective

A trial began today in the case of a man accused of killing San Antonio Police Detective Benjamin Marconi.

Otis McKane is accused of shooting Marconi outside Public Safety Headquarters in November 2016.

Jury selection for this trial actually started in 2020, but was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Investigators say McKane killed Marconi while he wrote a ticket for another driver pulled over in front of SAPD's Public Safety Headquarters. Marconi, who was assigned to SAPD's Special Victims Unit, was picking up an extra shift on traffic patrol.

McKane is charged with capital murder in the case and could face the death penalty, if convicted.
