The city of Dallas is remembering five police officers who were killed in the line of duty five years ago today. On July 7th, 2016, a man opened fire at a Black Lives Matter rally in downtown Dallas. The shooter killed DPD Officers Patrick Zamarripa and Michael Krol, Corporal Lorne Ahrens, Sergeant Michael Smith, and DART Officer Brent Thompson. Police later killed the shooter, who had committed the deadliest attack on American law enforcement since 9/11. The five fallen Dallas officers will be remembered this morning in a march to the downtown police memorial, and this evening with a candlelight vigil.
