Texans have been anything but cool with ERCOT since they released their recommended air conditioning temperatures to conserve energy. ERCOT suggests setting your thermostat to 78 degrees or higher, but a CPS Energy spokeswoman in San Antonio says 76 is more like it in the Texas summertime. Other useful tips to keep your energy bills low while the temperatures are hot is to use fans in separate rooms, avoid using the dryer or oven during the day, and unplug any appliances that aren't in use.
