Groups File Suit To Block Voter Reform Bill

Bexar County is among six Texas counties whose election offices are being sued to prevent a newly passed voting law from taking effect. The League of United Latin American Citizens and Voto Latino filed suit in Austin on Tuesday in an effort to stop the implementation of Senate Bill 1111, which is scheduled to take effect September 1st. The GOP-backed measure prevents voters from registering from addresses such as motel rooms or vacant lots, and requires proof of residence for someone who lists his address as a P.O. box. The lawsuit claims the bill is a racist attempt at voter suppression.
