San Antonio hospital leaders are pleading for blood donors. They held a press conference on Wednesday at the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center to call attention to the current blood shortage. Dr. Joyce Schwartz, blood bank medical director at Methodist Healthcare System, said they "need all types of blood" for surgeries, accidents, and other purposes. The blood bank says there's been a two-percent rise in donations, but a 20% rise in the need from local hospitals. Health officials say fewer people donate in the summer.
