Texas Secretary Of State To Resign

The Texas Secretary of State is resigning after the Senate takes no action on her confirmation. Ruth Reggero Hughs notified Governor Greg Abbott that she will be stepping down from the role she was appointed to in August of 2019. A secretary of state appointed in between regular legislative sessions is constitutionally required to leave office immediately if the Senate goes through an entire session without confirming them. The Senate Nominations Committee won't comment on why the committee did not consider the nomination.
