Forecasters are monitoring a tropical disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico that has a 60% chance of further development into a depression or actual named storm. The system is now called invest 91L and is expected to bring rain to parts of Texas over the next several days.
The disorganized Gulf disturbance will move toward the Texas coast through today, and will likely bring bands of heavy rain to Southeast Texas this weekend. Local flooding could result, since the ground is already saturated from recent rain, but no flood watches are in effect right now.
Surface observations and recent satellite wind data indicate that a well-defined low pressure system over the western Gulf of Mexico has winds of 30-35 mph near and east of the center.
