Cuellar: Time To Reopen U.S.-Mexico Border For Travel & Trade

The border with Mexico will remain closed to non-essential trade and travel for another month due to the pandemic.

Texas Democratic Congressman Henry Cuellar says it's time ease the restrictions.

"We allow thousands of people in the country undocumented. That's not a health issue?" he tells WOAI's Michael Board

He says it's unfair to visa holders, who just want to visit family. Homeland Security said the decision to remain closed is based on public health data.

The Mexican government has asked the White House to keep the ban in place through June. The closure has devastated border businesses, who rely on international trade. Cuellar says the ban doesn't make sense because it doesn't stop air travel.
