Missions Lose To Midland

The Missions have been outscored 15-3 in two games in Midland following a 9-2 loss Wednesday night. The Missions scored their first run in the seventh inning and had only two hits through eight innings.

The RockHounds came out of the gates strong Wednesday night and forced the Missions into their bullpen early. Midland scored a run in the first inning on an RBI triple from Jonah Bride.

The following inning was when starting pitcher Caleb Boushley ran into some trouble. The RockHounds scored three runs on eight hits in the second inning. Midland led 5-0 after three innings of play.

Through the first six innings, the Missions had one hit, two walks, and a hit by pitch. The shutout ended in the seventh inning. Following a walk from Brad Zunica, Eguy Rosario drove him in with an RBI double. Rosario had to exit the game on the play due to an injury. The Missions trailed 5-1.

The Missions bullpen did a great job keeping the RockHounds off the scoreboard from the 3rd to 6th innings. James Reeves and Carlos Belen combined for 3.2 scoreless innings, while only allowing two hits.

Mason Fox was the next pitcher for the Missions in the seventh inning. He was not as lucky as he gave up three earned runs before being replaced by Fred Schlichtolz.After seven innings, the Missions trailed 8-1.

The Missions tacked on a run in the ninth inning off the bat of Olivier Basabe, who was transferred from Fort Wayne to San Antonio before the game. He came into the game to replace Rosario.

With the loss, Boushley falls to 0-2 on the season after allowing five earned runs on ten hits in 2.1 innings pitched. Jared Koenig improves to 1-0 on the season. He allowed one hit in five innings of work.

The Missions and RockHounds will continue their six-game series Thursday night at Momentum Bank Ballpark. Left-hander Osvaldo Hernandez (0-0, 2.25) will start for San Antonio against the right-hander Bryce Conley (0-0, 8.10). First will be at 7 p.m.
