State House Works On Bills To Prevent Power Shutoffs To Some Power Plants

The Texas House is giving its initial approval to several bills intended to prevent another statewide power failure. One bill approved Monday requires the designation of certain gas facilities as critical during an energy crisis. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas ordered utilities to cut power during the February storm when demand outpaced supply so much the entire grid was threatened. But utilities shut off power to natural gas facilities, keeping them from delivering fuel to power plants. House Bill 14 would create a committee to prioritize electric service needs during extreme weather events.
