Police Capture Man Wanted In Austin Triple Murder

A former deputy has been taken into custody in connection with a triple homicide in Austin. Former Travis County Sheriff's Department deputy Stephen Broderick is the prime suspect wanted in the case.  Yesterday, three people were shot dead at the Arboretum Oaks Apartments on Great Hills Trail during what investigators are calling a domestic incident.

Police took Broderick into custody this morning after a motorist called 9-1-1 to report seeing someone suspicious walking along 290 in the Manor area. He was arrested without incident.

"Two callers reported to dispatch that a male subject fitting the description of Stephen Broderick was walking south bound on Old Kimbro Rd wearing a black shirt and dark jeans," said the Manor Police Department. "Manor Police Department Officers arrived on scene and immediately conducted a high risk stop on the subject who was identified as Broderick. Broderick complied with officer’s orders and was immediately taken into custody at 7:05am. A loaded pistol was taken from Broderick’s waistband."

Elgin ISD has confirmed the victims of the shootings included one current student and one former student. The district issued a statement saying they were heartbroken by the news of this senseless tragedy, and we extend our deepest condolences to the families of Willie Simmons III and Alyssa Broderick. Alyssa withdrew from Elgin ISD back in the fall. Willie was a senior and captain of the high school football team. In response to this tragedy, the district will have counselors and trained professionals available.
