Dustin Johnson Commits to Valero Texas Open

Officials confirmed a commitment from current World No. 1 and reigning PGA TOUR FedExCup Champion Dustin Johnson for this week’s Valero Texas Open in San Antonio. The tournament will be the final PGA TOUR stop prior to the year’s first major championship, the Masters Tournament in Augusta, GA., where Johnson will be defending his 2020 title.

Johnson’s last appearance in San Antonio was in 2015, when he finished T6.

The top player in the world for 122 consecutive weeks had an impressive stretch of play in 2020 when he won four times and finished second twice. The victories included Travelers Championship, The Northern Trust, TOUR Championship and Masters Tournament in the fall. He was voted the PGA TOUR Player of the Year in 2020 for the second time in his career.

“Having the No. 1 player in the world in our field certainly makes this one of the finest collection of players in our recent history,” said Larson Segerdahl, Executive Director of the Valero Texas Open. “We are grateful Dustin is going to join us as he prepares to defend his Masters title.”

Johnson has won 24 times on the PGA TOUR and with his victory at the 2020 Travelers Championship, he became the third player in history to win a TOUR title in each of his first 13 seasons, joining Jack Nicklaus (17) and Tiger Woods (14).
