Ag Commissioner Sid Miller Sues Over State Senate Virus Testing Requirement

State Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller is suing Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and the entire Texas Senate over a rule requiring visitors to be tested for the coronavirus. Miller and conservative Houston activist Steven Hotze filed the lawsuit on Tuesday. The Senate rule requires a negative test, administered in a tent outside the Capitol, before anybody can step onto the Senate floor, enter a Senate committee room for a hearing, or sit in the overhead gallery. The lawsuit claims the test requirement is a violation of free speech and the right to petition the government, as protected by the state Constitution.
