The Houston police union says HPD Police Chief Art Acevedo is leaving town to become the next police chief in Miami, Florida. Houston Police Officers Union President Doug Griffith is confirming Acevedo's move, and says they "wish him the best in Miami." Acevedo served as the HPD chief for more than four-years. Miami Police Chief Jorge Colina resigned at the end of last month. The exact date of Acevedo's departure hasn't been announced, but he said he's timing his move to coincide with "the end of Mayor Turner's final term in office." The Miami Herald reports today the city is expected to present Acevedo this morning. Miami city officials predict Acevedo will take the helm sometime around May 1st.
