Texas PUC Lowers Energy Overcharging Estimates From Winter Storms

The energy overcharge cost from last month's winter storms in Texas is being drastically lowered.

Texas Public Utility Commission Chair Arthur D'Andrea told a Texas House committee today there was about a $13 billion drop in estimates. He noted the original $16 billion number was never real but proposed by the independent market monitor.

There is still debate on whether the overcharge will be completely repriced. D'Andrea says he's worried about repricing because it would help energy generators who didn't prepare for the frigid temperatures at the expense of those who did. Millions in Texas were without power for almost a week last month due to the storms.
