Texas school systems whose enrollment and attendance have suffered because of the pandemic won't have their funding cut. Gov. Greg Abbott and the Texas Education Agency made the announcement on Thursday. A release from Abbott's office said schools won't be "financially penalized for declines in attendance" due to coronavirus for the rest of the school year, provided they maintain or increase their current levels of classroom attendance. Districts will be funded on the basis of attendance as estimated before the pandemic started.
