Mortgage Applications Slow As Texas Storm Freezes Demand

Mortgage applications sank more than 11% last week as interest rates spiked and the winter storm that hammered Texas froze demand. The Mortgage Bankers Association reports mortgage demand in Texas fell more than 40% as sub-zero cold and power outages paralyzed the state. Nationwide, purchase applications fell 12% and applications to refinance current loans dropped 11%.
