Sheriff: BCSO Will Investigate Cold Weather Deaths

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar says criminal charges may result from the findings of an investigation of about 15 local deaths in last week's winter storm. Salazar announced that an investigative unit including a former FBI agent has been formed to look into whether power outages caused the deaths. The sheriff says he'll serve CPS Energy with grand jury subpoenas to determine if power outages contributed to at least two deaths. He says criminal charges could result against the utility if negligence is found to have been a factor.
