5,000 Cold-Stunned Sea Turtles Rescued

Nearly five-thousand cold-stunned sea turtles are thawing out in Texas after being rescued by a group of volunteers. Temperatures have caused the turtles' heart rates to slow until they've become temporarily paralyzed. Volunteer Will Bellamy told The Washington Post it was like "an apocalypse of turtles littered on the beach." Nonprofit Sea Turtle, Inc. has filled their floor space with Kemp's, Ridley and loggerhead turtles. Executive Director Wendy Knight says the gas stations are out of gas and the grocery stores are out of water, but people keep showing up and working 15-hour days to save the turtles.
